La Belle Otéro - Photos by Edward Quinn

La Belle Otero, a dancer, singer and a «demie-mondaine» of «La Belle Epoque», was still alive in the fifties. The Prince of Wales, later King Edward VII, and the Kaiser had competed for the pleasure of her company. It was said that through her charms she had received about 20 million dollars, mostly in diamonds. Unfortunately she lost that fortune at the Monte Carlo Casino, and during the fifties she lived in a very small flat in Nice, surrounded by her souvenirs. Her only distraction was to feed the pigeons on her balcony. Nice 1954.
