In the light-filled, cluttered studio of Villa La Californie, Cannes, Pablo Picasso looks towards his lifelong friend and secretary, Jaime Sabartés, in 1957. Sabartés, formally dressed in a double-breasted suit, critically examines a portrait of Jacqueline, while the more casually dressed Picasso seems to await his opinion. The room is a testament to artistic creation, filled with stacked canvases, sculptures, and ceramics, all bathed in strong light from a large window that casts long shadows of the two men across the floor.
