Pablo Picasso poses with his children, Claude and Paloma, at the "Japon. Céramique contemporaine" exhibition at the Nérolium in Vallauris, 21 July 1951. With a direct gaze, Picasso holds Paloma, who wears a wide-brimmed hat, while his right hand rests gently on the shoulder of his son, Claude. This was one of the first photographs Edward Quinn took of the artist; Picasso’s appreciation for the picture subsequently granted Quinn access to photograph him in the privacy of his homes and studios.
