Pablo Picasso working on the "War and Peace study" drawings on the wall of Chapelle de la Paix (or Temple de la Paix) for the documentary film of Luciano Emmer. (The panels of War and Peace of 1952 were away on exhibition). Vallauris 1953.

For a documentary film by Luciano Emmer, a shirtless Pablo Picasso stands on a wooden ladder to work on study drawings for his “War and Peace” mural. Seen from behind inside the Chapelle de la Paix in Vallauris in 1953, he uses a long-handled brush to render a stylized female nude directly onto the curved wall. This recreation was necessary as the original 1952 panels were away on exhibition. The fluid lines of the figure contrast with the rustic stone wall to the left, while a table with paints and brushes sits in the blurred foreground.
