Michele Sapone, Italian tailor, fits a new garment he has made as a birthday present for Pablo Picasso. In return Pablo Picasso gave him drawings. La Californie, Cannes 1956.

In the studio of his villa La Californie in Cannes, Pablo Picasso stands patiently as his Italian tailor, Michele Sapone, fits a new garment. The striped pullover was a birthday present from Sapone in 1956. In return for his work, Picasso would often give the tailor drawings. Dressed in a formal suit, Sapone carefully adjusts the fit at the collar and waist, surrounded by the artist's canvases, including a large, unfinished Cubist nude in the background.
