Pablo Picasso exits the Château d'Antibes on 25 February 1957, holding the large, unrolled certificate declaring him an Honorary Citizen. The official document, dated 23 August 1956, is clearly visible. To his left stands his son, Paulo Picasso, a cigarette in his mouth. Behind the artist, in a patterned jacket and flat cap, is Blanche, wife of museum director Dor de la Souchère. The group emerges from a dark doorway set into the château's rough stone walls, where a carved coat of arms is affixed.
