The artist’s studio at Villa La Californie in Cannes, 1959, is a space of prolific creation, filled with Cubist paintings and sculptures. Beneath a high ceiling and a large arched window, a painted cutout sculpture of a face stands on a pedestal. It is surrounded by canvases propped against walls and furniture, among them a portrait dated "22.7.57".
