At his villa La Californie in Cannes, Pablo Picasso presents a recent ink drawing of abstract birds to Louise Leiris, co-owner of the Parisian Leiris Gallery. Dated 17 July 1959, the work captures her intent gaze. In the foreground rests another of the artist's projects: the first copy of a deluxe edition of poems by Pierre Reverdy, for which Picasso provided the illustrations. The room, filled with cubist paintings and instruments, serves as the artist’s personal studio and gallery.
