Château de Vauvenargues, where Pablo Picasso lived from 1959-62, in the foothills of Mont Sainte-Victoire, near Aix-en-Provence. A great square building dating from the sixteenth and eighteenth centuries, against a Provençal backdrop. Vauvenargues 1960.
The Château de Vauvenargues, Pablo Picasso’s residence from 1959 to 1962, is seen here in a low-angle view near Aix-en-Provence. Dating from the sixteenth and eighteenth centuries, the great square building is flanked by two imposing round towers with conical roofs. Weathered stone steps, overgrown with grass, lead to the symmetrical facade, where bright sunlight casts sharp shadows across the textured walls. Iron grilles cover the ground-floor windows, while taller windows above feature open, louvered shutters. Vauvenargues, 1960.
