On the stone terrace of his home, Le Mas Notre-Dame-de-Vie in Mougins, Pablo Picasso greets his Afghan Hound, Kaboul, in 1962. Dressed in his iconic striped Breton shirt, the artist leans forward, holding the dog’s front paws as it stands on its hind legs. Behind them, through the large arched French doors, Picasso’s wife, Jacqueline, watches the scene from inside the house. This terrace was later enclosed to create an additional room.
