During the 1952 Monaco Grand Prix, Stirling Moss’s Jaguar C-Type, number 78, is attended to after a multi-car pile-up at the Ste-Devote corner. With the hood propped open, men work on the exposed engine as a police officer looks on from atop a row of sandbags. Behind a wooden fence, a small group, including a priest, observes the scene, while the balconies and rooftops of the surrounding city buildings are crowded with spectators.
