In 1954 Marlon Brando came to Bandol, a small town near Toulon, to visit his fiancée Josanne Mariani-Bérenger, daughter of a fisherman. Brando liked Bandol, as nobody really knew who he was. At first he refused to be photographed, but later he came out for a walk along the harbor and even smiled when he saw the photographer. Brando announced his engagement to the press, however the love affair ended abruptly when he returned to America. Bandol 1954.
In the French port town of Bandol, Marlon Brando is captured with his fiancée, Josanne Mariani-Bérenger, in 1954. The actor was visiting the fisherman's daughter in her hometown, a place he enjoyed for its anonymity. Dressed in a blazer over a Breton shirt, he looks down at her with a gentle smile. Though their engagement was announced to the press, the affair ended abruptly upon his return to America. A sign mentioning "PASSEPORTS" in the background confirms the harborside setting.
