El Cordobés. Fréjus 1965. A bullfight Picasso attended (see "Picasso").

In the dusty Fréjus bullring, the matador El Cordobés engages in a tense and intimate interaction with a bull. Dressed in an ornate suit of lights (*traje de luces*), he leans forward, looking down as he holds the animal’s tufted tail. Several decorated darts, or *banderillas*, are lodged in the bull’s back and shoulders. This photograph was taken in 1965 at a bullfight also attended by Pablo Picasso.
