Madoura pottery, Vallauris 1961
Photographed at the Madoura pottery studio in Vallauris in 1961, this oval ceramic platter rests on a rough, textured surface. Its glossy black glaze is adorned with a stylized bullfight scene rendered in expressive white lines. A picador on horseback confronts a bull, while the spectators in the stands are suggested in the background. The rim is edged with a continuous wavy line, and the piece is hand-painted with the date "25. 9. 53." at the top of the design.
