Nelson Pillar, O'Connell Street (demolished 8 March 1966), Dublin 1963.
Viewed from a low angle through a window with shattered upper panes, Nelson Pillar on Dublin's O'Connell Street is seen in 1963. The dark window frame segments the tall, classical stone column, topped with a viewing platform and statue. To the right, an ornate lamppost is silhouetted against the bright, overcast sky, while part of the interior's rough-hewn stone wall is visible at left. The monument was demolished on 8 March 1966.
