At his villa La Californie in Cannes, 1959, Pablo Picasso examines the first copy of a deluxe poetry edition by Pierre Reverdy, for which he created the illustrations. With arms crossed, he intently studies a page open to one of his bold, abstract designs. He is joined by Louise Leiris, co-owner of the Parisian Leiris Gallery, who rests her chin on her hand in thought, and his son, Paulo Picasso, who looks on from behind with a cigarette dangling from his lips. The art-filled studio surrounds them in an atmosphere of quiet concentration.
