In the sandy bullfighting arena of Nimes, matador Luis Miguel Dominguin kneels on one knee, sword in hand. He faces a large, dark bull, its head lowered just inches from him. Spectators lean forward over the wooden barrier, while a large audience fills the tiered stone stands. The photograph was taken in 1960 at a bullfight also attended by Pablo Picasso.
