  • Prince Rainier and Princess Grace meeting Monegasque people in the courtyard of the Royal Palace. Monaco 1956 for the official reception of the wedding presents. Grace Kelly wore a pale blue chiffon day dress by the California designer James Galanos. She accessorized z^the dress with a small headpiece of matching blue ribbon, white gloves and the same Morabito needlepoint bag she had carried to the Academy Award of 1955. Rolls Royce Silver Cloud I, Standard Steel Sports Saloon, was a wedding-gift by the Conseil Nationale de Monaco to their Souvereign to celebrate the marriage. When the car was ordered the specifications included that Crown and Cypher were to be applied to the front doors – thus giving off this was an owner-driver car (cars exclusively chauffeur-driven showed the Armorial Bearings on their rear doors). Indeed The Prince and his wife, too, are known to have driven this car frequently. His Serene Highness’ driving attitude (speedy – to put it mildly) on a later visit to Rome in 1957 did surprise the escorting Carabinieri on their motor-bikes; such they had neither expected from this motor car nor from the Souvereign of the Principality. All of the prince's cars had license plates ending in 77. Monaco 1956. - Photo by Edward Quinn
