Marlon Brando came to Bandol, a small town near Toulon, to visit his fiancée Josanne Mariani-Bérenger, daughter of a fisherman. Brando liked Bandol, as nobody really knew who he was. At first he refused to be photographed, but later he came out for a walk along the harbor and even smiled when he saw the photographer. Brando announced his engagement to the press, however the love affair ended abruptly when he returned to America. Bandol 1954.
A contact sheet documents a relaxed outing between Marlon Brando and his fiancée, Josanne Mariani-Bérenger, in the French port of Bandol in 1954. Brando was visiting Mariani-Bérenger, the daughter of a local fisherman, and initially resisted being photographed. The twelve frames capture them along the harbor, with Brando in a Breton shirt and blazer. The series shows candid and affectionate moments, from walking arm-in-arm to Brando adjusting her collar. He announced their engagement to the press, but the affair ended upon his return to America.
